THESSALON
Thessalon is located on the north shore of Lake Huron, 85 km east of Sault Ste. Marie. It began as a logging port in the 19th century. The Thessalon River is a beautiful natural feature that meanders through the town. There are two public sand beaches, a primary school, a campground, Algoma Manor Home for the Aged, the Thessalon Hospital, a pharmacy, and a marina, as well as grocery, banks, library, liquor store, stores and post office. Industries in the area outside of town include a lumber and a plywood mill. The Thessalon Hospital is a satellite branch of Sault Area Hospital, thus we enjoy access to the diagnostic services and specialty consultation of that larger centre. We offer 24 hour ER (<5000 annual visits), lab and x-ray diagnostic services, 4 inpatient bed and 2 observation beds, outpatient chemotherapy. Surgical and Obstetrics services are provided in Sault Ste. Marie, 86 km away Thessalon Community Health Centre houses two physicians and staff. Each physician has a private office and two exam rooms with EMR. The new Algoma Manor is adjacent to the hospital and houses 96 residents. This facility opened during the fall of 2011. Salary and Incentive includes: Our alternate payment plan is the Rural and Northern Physician Group Agreement, group 2. This includes a generous annual salary, maternity leave, 5% bonus on office shadow billing, 20% bonus on ER shadow billing, a CME bonus and annual preventive care bonuses, among others.
